ASX set to open higher, after US stocks rose to end a winning week.
Australia
Australian shares are set to open higher, after US stocks rose to end a winning week.
ASX futures were up 0.61% or 52 points as of 8:00am on Monday, suggesting a higher open.
US stocks rose to end a winning week as US indicators keep portraying a robust economy and the dollar strengthened. Super Micro Computer rose 12%, totalling a 78% gain for a week when the server maker submitted a plan to the Nasdaq that kept it listed and announced a new auditor. Consumer staples outperformed other S&P 500 sectors, rising more than 3% this week. The DJIA rose 1% Friday and almost 2% in the week, to 44,297, its 44th record this year. The S&P 500 was 0.4% higher at 5,969, up 1.7% in the week. The Nasdaq closed slightly higher, up 1.7% for the week, at 19,004.
In commodity markets, Brent crude oil was up 1.3% to US$75.17 a barrel, while gold was up 1.7% to US$2,716.19.
The Australian dollar was at 64.99 US cents.
Asia
Chinese shares closed lower. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index lost 3.1% to 3,267.19, and the Shenzhen Composite Index fell 3.5% to 1,966.91.
Hong Kong shares ended lower. The benchmark Hang Seng Index dropped 1.9% to 19,229.97.
Japanese shares closed higher. The Nikkei Stock Average rose 0.7% to 38,283.85.
India shares ended higher. The BSE SENSEX added 2.5% to 79,117.11.
Europe
Stocks in the U.K. finished higher. The FTSE 100 Index gained 1.4% to 8,262.08.
In Europe, shares closed higher. Germany's DAX increased 0.9% to 19,322.59, and France's CAC 40 rose 0.6% to 7,255.01.
North America
U.S. stocks ended higher. The DJIA added 1.0% to 44,296.51, the S&P 500 gained 0.3% to 5,969.34, and the Nasdaq increased 0.2% to 19,003.65.
Among S&P 500 companies, the top three gainers were Super Micro Computer Inc, surging 11.72%, Copart Inc jumped 10.14%, and Moderna Inc lifted 7.50%.
The biggest decliners were Intuit Inc which dropped 5.68%, Palo Alto Networks Inc fell 3.61%, and NetApp Inc lost 3.43%.
