Australian shares are set to open lower, after U.S. indexes fell.

ASX futures were down 0.31% or 24 points as of 8:00am on Tuesday, suggesting a lower open.

U.S. stocks ended lower. DJIA dropped 0.12% to 39,118.86, the S&P 500 fell 0.41% to 5,460.48, and the Nasdaq lost 0.71% to 17,732.60.

In commodity markets, Brent crude oil was up 1.92% to US$86.63 a barrel, while gold was up 0.03% at US$2,332.67.

In local bond markets, the yield on Australian 2 Year government bonds was up at 4.20% while the 10 Year yield was up at %4.38. US Treasury notes were up, with the 2 Year yield up at 4.76% and the 10 Year yield up at 4.46%.

The Australian dollar was 66.68 US cents, unchanged from its previous close of 66.68.

Asia

Chinese shares closed higher, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rising 0.92% to 2,994.73, and the Shenzhen Composite Index gaining 0.77% to 1,630.49.

Hong Kong shares closed mixed, with the benchmark Hang Seng Index rising 0.01% to 17,718.61 and the Hang Seng Tech Index dropping 0.95% to 3,912.81.

Japanese stocks ended higher. The Nikkei Stock Average rose 0.61% to 39,583.08.

India shares ended higher. The benchmark Sensex gained 0.10% to 73,961.31.

Europe

Stocks in the U.K. finished lower, as the FTSE 100 Index declined 0.19% to 8,164.12.

In Europe, shares closed mixed, with the STOXX Europe 600 Index losing 0.23% to 511.42, Germany's DAX up 0.14% to 18,235.45, and France's CAC 40 falling 0.68% to 7,479.40.

North America

U.S. stocks ended lower.
