April was a crazy month for investors. They say in bull markets, everyone becomes a long-term investor; in bear markets, everyone becomes a macro economist.

Like many, my month was spent consuming unnecessary amounts of tariff commentary and anticipating Trump’s erratic moves.

Below are some of my favourites from this month.

Can you get rich quick?

We all know a crypto bro who stares at candlestick charts all day thinking he has made it after buying his second jet ski. Whilst such bets may result in handsome wins for a small portion of the population speculation often leads to losses. In Edition 10 of my column, I explore the perils of speculative trading using the Tesla bubble as an example.

What to do when the market crashes

The second week of April was tumultuous to say the least. Trump’s tariff announcement sent markets into chaos, experiencing large drops that took several indices into bear market territory. So, what can we do to make sense of current market conditions? Sometimes the answer is nothing.

How I am investing through the market volatility

Trump’s tariff extravaganza continued to send investors into a frenzy with proclamations to “buy the dip!” or “sell everything!” enticing people’s worst investing behaviour. For those who were looking to uncover a groundbreaking investment strategy for returns maximisation, I offered some sage advice.

Should you withdraw your super for a house deposit?

There isn’t one specific definition of success in your 20s – but for many, it involves the purchase of a first home. As we draw closer to the Federal election, I analyse the housing proposals of both major parties and discuss my problem with the super-for-housing policy.

Stocks

ASX small caps offering great value right now

I attempt to explore the elusive world of small cap investing – an asset class which has evoked a renewed interest from investors amidst the rate cut environment. I propose an equity screen that attempts to negate the risks of small cap investing and share some of our best small cap picks right now.

The most hated company on the ASX 200 right now

Down close to 75% in the last year, Mineral Resources has copped its share of criticism from investors, amidst falling lithium prices and governance issues. Renewed fears of trade tariffs slowing the sale of electric vehicles saw the miner take yet another hit to it’s share price. It seems investors have lost all hopes, but Morningstar believes there may be significant upside potential.

Do you need a financial adviser?

Australia is running out of financial advisers. A regulatory crackdown on the industry led to the mass exodus we are seeing today. In the age of information, I ask the question – do you need a financial adviser? How much additional value can they provide?
