ASX set to open higher, after US indexes continued gains.
Australia
Australian shares are set to open higher, after US indexes continued gains.
ASX futures were up 0.38% or 32 points as of 8:30am on Tuesday, suggesting a higher open.
US stocks extended last week's gains after President Trump entered office, but delayed implementation of any potential tariffs while issuing a number of executive orders and promising more business friendly policies to come.
3M gained 4.2% after forecasting growth in sales and profit this year. General Motors jumped 5.7% after one analyst referenced the possibility of "positive surprises" under the new Trump administration. Charles Schwab rose 5.9% after the brokerage reports a 76% increase in quarterly profit.
DJIA gained 538 points, or 1.2%, to 44,025, the S&P rose 0.9% to 6,049 and the Nasdaq climbed 0.6% to 19,756.
In commodity markets, Brent crude oil was down 0.86% to US$79.46 a barrel, while gold was up 1.32% to US$2,743.99.
The Australian dollar was at 62.65 US cents, down from its previous close of 62.73.
Asia
Chinese shares closed mixed. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dropped 0.1% to 3,242.62, and the Shenzhen Composite Index gained 0.3% to 1,939.7.
Hong Kong shares ended higher. The benchmark Hang Seng Index added 0.9% to 20,106.55.
Japanese shares closed higher. The Nikkei Stock Average lifted 0.3% to 39,027.98.
India shares ended lower. The BSE SENSEX fell 1.6% to 75,838.36.
Europe
Stocks in the U.K. finished higher. The FTSE 100 Index gained 0.3% to 8,548.29.
In Europe, shares closed higher. Germany's DAX rose 0.2% to 21,042, and France's CAC 40 increased 0.5% to 7,770.95.
North America
U.S. stocks ended higher. The DJIA lifted 1.2% to 44,025.81, the S&P 500 increased 0.9% to 6,049.24, and the Nasdaq gained 0.6% to 19,756.78.
Among S&P 500 companies, the top three gainers were NVIDIA Corp NVDA surging 2.28%, Apple Inc AAPL jumped -3.19%, and Amazon.com Inc AMZN lifted 2.11%.
The biggest decliners were NVIDIA Corp NVDA which dropped 2.28%, Apple Inc AAPL fell 3.19%, and Amazon.com Inc AMZN lost 2.11%.
