Australian shares are set to open higher, after US stocks climbed overnight.

ASX futures up 13 points or 0.2% near 7.15am AEDT on Tuesday, suggesting a higher open.

US shares rose after Telsa gained 7 percent on the back of suggestions that President Trump would ease restrictions on driverless cars.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.21%. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite each rose with the S&P up 0.37% and the Nasdaq climbing 0.49%.

Commodities rose with Brent crude oil breaking the US$73 market, while gold climbed to US$2,000 an ounce and Iron Ore up 2.5% to US$99.15.

The Australian dollar rose to 65.06 US cents.

Asia

Chinese shares closed lower. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index lost 0.21% to 3,323.85. 

Hong Kong shares ended lower. The benchmark Hang Seng Index rose 0.77% to 19,576.

Japanese shares closed lower. The Nikkei Stock Average slipped 1.09% to 38,220.

Europe

Stocks in the U.K. finished higher. The FTSE 100 Index rose 0.57% to 8,109.

In Europe, shares closed higher. Germany's DAX dropped 0.11%, and France's CAC 40 rose 0.12%.

North America

The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.21%. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite each rose with the S&P up 0.37% and the Nasdaq climbing 0.49%.
