Australian shares are set to open higher, after US stocks finished mixed.

ASX futures were up 0.5% or 4 points as of 8:00am on Tuesday, suggesting a higher open.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average hit a fresh record Monday, while the Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 fell after coming off their best two-week stretch of the year.

The Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 were pulled lower by a broad decline in technology shares, with the indexes falling 0.9% and 0.3%, respectively. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.2% to 41,240.52, notching its 23rd record close of 2024.

In commodity markets, Brent crude oil was up 2.9% to US$81.27 a barrel, while gold was up 0.2% tp US$2,518.03.

The Australian dollar was at 67.72 US cents, down from its previous close of 67.95.

Asia

Chinese shares closed mixed. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index was flat at 2,855.52, and the Shenzhen Composite Index rose 0.4% to 1,512.50.

Hong Kong shares ended higher. The benchmark Hang Seng Index added 1.1% to 17,798.73.

Japanese shares closed lower. The Nikkei Stock Average fell 0.7% to 38,110.22.

India shares ended higher. The BSE SENSEX rose 0.8% to 81,698.11.

Europe

Stocks in the U.K. finished higher. The FTSE 100 Index gained 0.5% to 8,327.78.

In Europe, shares closed mixed. Germany's DAX fell 0.1% to 18,617.02, and France's CAC 40 added 0.2% to 7,590.37.

North America

U.S. stocks ended mixed. The DJIA rose 0.2% to 41,240.52, the S&P 500 fell 0.3% to 5,616.84, and the Nasdaq lost 0.9% to 17,725.77.

Among S&P 500 companies, the top three gainers were Dayforce Inc, surging 3.96%, Jack Henry & Associates jumped 2.56%, and EOG Resources Inc lifted 2.49%.

The biggest decliners were Super Micro Computer Inc which dropped 8.27%, Broadcom Inc fell 3.99%, and Micron Technology Inc lost 3.83%.
